About the Canton Fire Fighter's Foundation

The Canton Fire Fighters #2289 Charity Foundation, is a nonprofit organization. Established by Canton Fire Fighters to give something back to the Canton Community.

The purpose of the foundation is to support Canton community charities, assist in emergency relief efforts and other worthwhile causes that surface in the community. Examples of our contributions include financial aid to house fire victims, help to families suffering from tragedy or illness, and aid to people in need of shelter. We also raise money for a variety of charities that provide medical service or research.

Planning and coordinating annual fund-raising events will be a major goal of the foundation.

How it started

In 1995 Canton Fire Fighters hosted two benefit hockey games with the Detroit Red Wing Alumni. Over $21,000 was raised with these two events for Greg Unger. Greg is a Canton Teen who was in need of a double lung transplant.

In early 1996 a third hockey game was played with the Red Wing Alumni and $12,000 was raised for the University of Michigan Hospital Trauma Burn Unit. On August 3, 1996 a softball game with the Detroit Red Wings was played and we raised almost $10,000, which allowed us to donate $4,000 to the Special Olympics.

The Goal

To establish a fund to support Canton Community Charities, other worthwhile charities as well as assist in emergency relief efforts and other worthwhile causes that surface in the community.

Tax deductible contributions along with fund-raising events will support the fund. 100% of all donations will be used for charitable causes. Disbursements will be made in accordance with the foundation bylaws.
